1/10/2005 Dunlop cleans up in the mud at Anaheim Supercross

Buffalo, NY- Dunlop-mounted riders slogged to victory in both main events of the season’s first THQ AMA (American Motorcyclist Association) Supercross event in Anaheim, California on Saturday, January 8.

Amid the mud and grime brought on by unrelenting torrential rains, Dunlop-mounted riders cleaned up as Amsoil/Chaparral Honda’s Kevin Windham was the 250-class victor and a trio of Dunlop-equipped riders led by KTM’s Nathan Ramsey on a 250 SXF filled the 125 event podium. Team Samsung/Holigan Honda’s Josh Woods followed Ramsey across the line on his CRF250R and Akira Narita, riding a CRF250R for MotoSport Outlet Honda, took third.

Windham’s victory in the evening’s final 250 event was the product of a smart strategy, and smooth, consistently fast riding. He started off in second position on his Honda CRF450R, and motored past early-race leader Ricky Carmichael on lap five, who crashed and then struggled with traction throughout the race. Windham stalled late in the race, but with nearly an entire lap lead, he was able to restart and continue on to win without ever being threatened.

Dunlop was the tire of choice for the majority of 125- and 250-class riders who qualified for their respective events, including 27 of the 42 125-class riders. Even more impressive, of the 22 125-final qualifiers, 17 rode on Dunlop tires. Dunlop congratulates all the racers who chose Dunlop tires in Saturday’s mudfest. The next round of the THQ AMA Supercross series will take place on Saturday, January 15 at Bank One Ballpark in Phoenix, Arizona.
