17:45 - Final Lap Times For Wednesday
The AMA has been providing live lap times throughout the day here at the Dunlop Daytona Tire Test, and they have supplied us with their finalized results for the day, in downloadable format. As you can see, the top runners in both the Superbike and 600 Supersport classes posted times separated by mere tenths of a second, with a variety of manufacturers filling out the mix. In addition, a number of teams ran extended tests that proved extremely positive in terms of tire durability.
All of this bodes very well for the upcoming season, in a number of ways. First, it appears that there are more than sufficient options within Dunlop’s 2003 Daytona tire offerings to fulfill the extraordinary demands imposed by this famous racetrack. Second, it seems that there will be plenty of close-fought battles featuring a mix of manufacturers this coming year, which should help to build plenty of interest in the series. Third, the laps times look to be faster than ever here at Daytona, albeit with a new configuration to the chicane, so expect new records to be set here in March.
